The Plonkers Agricultural Orchestra from the New Forrest

TM

Welcome to The Plonkers® official web site.
The New Forests very own Original Plonkers Agricultural Orchestra, The Plonkers
®
Celebrating their 30th Year in show biz.

The Plonkers Agricultural Orchestra are an ideal band for County Shows, Local Fetes, Carnivals and Pubs.
Combining the local 'yokel' Hampshur' wit of Gordon on banjo, with 'Scrumpy' Country songs and an inventive band of very accomplished mooosicians.

The ORIGINAL Plonkers Agricultural Orchestra started life in 1979 when Gordon entered the Lymington carnival with a cider-making machine 'float'. It was a two-wheeled cart pulled by Plonker the donkey with whistles, bells and various gizmos. The cart was followed by Gordon on banjo, Bob on squeeze box and a trombone and bass drum. They won first prize playing the chorus of Drink up thee zider (which is all they knew, but as they kept moving the crowd never realised this!) for the whole parade. They did this for a few years until the 'band' numbered 15. Then one year the band booked for the Lymington Steam fair couldn't make it and Gordon was asked to stand in - the first booking for The Plonker's Agricultural Orchestra. They have been plaguing the New Forest ever since.

News update.

Golly and Jilly went see Sludge on Saturday 13th Feb, and had a nice surprise.
Though he still remained seriously ill, there was some good news.
He had been taken out of intensive care and was no longer on life support.
He was then moved to the high dependency unit and was out of his coma.
Golly said, "Sludge is looking better, and he even managed a smile or two".

Then there was more good news: Sludge had been moved to a normal ward,
and the doctors were hoping to get him off the breathing equipment.

Now we have some really great news. (18th February)
Golly just had a phone call from a visitor saying that Gary was sitting up in bed,
and said, 'what's all the fuss about, when is the next Plonker gig?'

He can now see ok, and they can't stop poor old Sludge talking and smiling.
He is now being moved to a rehabilitation ward and is in good spirits.

Everyone wants to thank the hospital staff for all the care that Gary has received
and we are all thinking and caring about Sue, Gary's wife, and the immediate family.
Until further notice, while Gary is learning to assimilate and feel confident about his immediate surroundings
no visitors, except family, will be allowed to visit the Rehabilitation Centre.

On January 14th, Gary, was involved in a very serious road accident and is still in intensive care. .
We all wish Sludge a speedy recovery and are publishing messages from well-wishers on a special dedicated page.

Being a very flexible orchestra, all have expressed a wish to fill in for Sludge at gigs,
but everyone wants to see him well, back on stage, strumming his guitar and fine tuning the Plonkers sound once again.

Full report in conjunction with The Lymington Times and Daily Echo.
Click here for the Lymington Times and Daily Echo report.

Do you know anybody who may have witnessed this accident at around 6.30pm
on Thursday evening 14th January.
Please call 101 or lymington.snt@hampshire.pnn.police.uk

If you want to send Sludge a get-well message, please email chris@theplonkers.com
